The answer to the question concerning the origin of Dingoes has not yet been found. The Dingo is thought to have arrived in the continent 9000-15,000 years ago but how it got there remains uncertain. It can be theorized that the Dingo was introduced from Asia during the later immigrations of Aborigines in post-Pleistocene times (approximately 5000 to 8000 years ago).

The oldest fossil known was proved to be about 3450 years old, which coincides with the appearance of Dingo drawings left on stones and rocks by Aborigines. As a matter of fact, the Dingoes appearance in Australia added to the extermination of the Native Tasmanian wolf on the Australian mainland. While the island State of Tasmania separated from the mainland 10,000 years ago, it did not suffer. Some specialists claim that all dog breeds are descendants of the Dingo that gave start to about 600 true dog breeds. This point of view is opposed to the conception that the Grey Wolf (Canis lupus) is the ancestor of all dog breeds.

The Dingo was the only animal domesticated by the Aborigines. These creatures made good companions for people and became an inseparable part of their lifestyle. Nowadays, it is proposed to control the population of Dingoes since they damage cattle and can be dangerous to man.
