The coat of the hounds is soft; the length of the coat and its density, and texture varies according to climate. Typical coat colors are yellow-ginger, but can occur in tan, black or white, including an occasional brindle; albinos have also been seen.

These hounds are called scientifically Australian Native hounds, Maliki, Warrigal, Noggum, etc. These are small and very mobile hounds that are very intelligent.
